Once in a Lifetime (1995)

My very first attempt at film. I created this in Christmas of 1995 to honor my family events, including the death of my grandfather in 1995. This was made without a computer. I selected scenes I wanted after viewing hours of video tape footage, and then stopped the tape at the point I wanted. I then lined up the tapes on the floor in order and timed the amount of footage to music. While the music played into the recording VCR, I added video footage with another VCR connected with an RCA cable. While that recorded, I set up the next scene in another VCR and when it was time to switch, I pulled the RCA cable out of VCR 1 and put it into VCR2, in real time. I did this alternately for each scene. Near the end, when you hear the funeral, I pulled out one channel of sound from the music and plugged in the tape sound. The loud noise that bursts in during a transition was wind in the microphone on the original funeral tape, but I missed editing it out because I couldn't get the RCA cable free. Not perfect, but a first.
